Open Main St

An Unfunded Vision

Downtown Business Owners Showing their support at a Ventura Counsel meeting

Initially, downtown Ventura businesses enjoyed the car-free Main Street. But now, a majority want it reopened. Many have closed or moved out of the closure.

The closure will cost tens of millions - up to $500 per taxpayer.

$3.25 million is being diverted from street paving for the closure.

Downtown Street Closure

$522 Per Taxpayer

The City's Main Street Vision Plan is unfunded, and they won't release a cost estimate. They've diverted money from paving to pay for the closure.

Now, the City wants a new sales tax to pay for it.

Declining sales tax revenue in the closure shows that the closure is hurting accessibility and eliminating quick-trip shopping.

Many businesses initially supported the closure, but are now urging the City Council to reopen.

Expanded Paid Parking

The closure eliminated the city's highest earning parking meters. To replace lost revenue, the City plans to expand paid parking.

Under their plan, free parking will be a 10 minute walk away.
